The Troll subsea separation station is now in operation and isrnestablishing a working track record. The Troll subsearnseparation station separates water and oil and re-injects thernwater into a dedicated disposal well. The system is installed onrnthe Troll Field, located in the Norwegian North Sea (360 mrnwater depth). The Troll field would experience liquidrnhandling capacity problems if not for the subsea processingrnstation which relieves this problem.rnThe Troll subsea separation station is the only full size, subsearnseparation station actually installed and operating. Thernadaptation of this technology to ultra deepwater fields is arnmajor challenge, calling for application of new radicallyrnimproved methods for gravity based separation.rnThe oil and gas industry is known for its risk awareness, thusrnthe process of adapting subsea separation to ultradeep waterrnfields must be undertaken with care. However, in order tornmeet the demands of the future deepwater fields, some radicalrnchanges will be necessary.rnThis paper will focus on how subsea separation can be adaptedrnto Ultra deepwater fields, and which principles can be used inrnthe next generation of ultra deepwater subsea systems,rn“NuDeep” /1/
