This paper presents an integrated approach on HPHT wellrncontrol in narrow pressure margin wells. The approachrnincludes theoretical evaluations, computer simulations withrnadvanced modeling tools, laboratory studies, well controlrntraining as well as implementation of learnings in proceduresrnand operations. Examples from the North Sea on thernapplication of advanced transient well control modeling for thernplanning of HPHT drilling as well as training are described inrndetail.rnA special focus is directed towards gas diffusion duringrndrilling operations; with its impact on a number of importantrnparameters like rheology and barite sag. Both theoretical andrnexperimental work is presented.
