The application of systems thinking and systems theoryrnto the design and management of systems and their liferncycles can provide a valuable "lens" through which thernsystems engineer may view systems, their surroundingrnenvironment, and the contextual frameworks withinrnwhich systems exist. This paper is organized to showrnthe evolution and current organization and principalrnelements of systems engineering text books, thernvaluable concepts of systems theory and systemsrnthinking as related to systems engineering, and thernframework for the inclusion of systems concepts,rnfundamentals, and methodologies in the basic texts onrnsystems engineering.
