The application of Six Sigma principles and tools canrnbe especially effective for helping higher educationalrninstitutions improve their operations and become morerncustomer-focused. This paper provides a proposedrnframework for improving operational excellence andrncross functional problem solving at the University ofrnCentral Florida. The framework was developed byrnfaculty and graduate students within a Six Sigmarncourse in the Industrial Engineering and ManagementrnSystems department. This framework incorporatesrnmetrics and customer-based problem solving, crossfunctionalrnteams trained in Six Sigma principles andrntools, as well as a knowledge-based expert system thatrncan provide a centralized repository for problemrnsolving and solutions.
