摘要

The last 10 years have witnessed a dramatic increase in investments in IT across all industries. At the sametime, empirical studies have failed to find any positive relationships between extensive use and investment inIT and organisational efficiency, performance, and success. In fact, some research studies have even foundevidence to the contrary. A study on IT usage and investment issues, and the relationship between ITinvestment and a firm's business performance, is thus useful and timely because very frequently, the onlyspending guidelines managers have for IT investment are the spending levels of competing firms in theirindustry (eg., based on a percentage of revenues).This study focusses on IT issues faced by Large and Medium Size Singapore-based Multinational Companies(MNCs) in the Banking, Finance, Construction, Engineering, Electronics, Communications, and ManufacturingIndustries, and relates the levels of IT investments in these firms with their financial performance. The resultsallow decision makers to be more aware of the issues related to IT investment and usage in variousindustries, and the possible returns (or lack of it) of IT spending.
