Hachinohe Smelting Company Limited operates a zinc-lead smelter based on the Imperial SmeltingrnProcess at Hachinohe, producing 112,000t/y of Zinc and 45,000t/y of lead. In recent years, a number ofrntechnical improvements have been made to the smelter. The ratio of secondary oxidic raw materials fed tornthe smelter has been increased up to 40%. The slag fuming plant has been operating in the smelter sincern1993 for the recovery of zinc and lead from ISF slag. In November 2001, a second slag fumer wasrncommissioned in series with the first unit to improve the slag quality for use in the cement manufacture andrnto increase zinc and lead recovery in the fume. In 2008, the gas off-take for the No.2 slag fumer wasrnmodified to raise the plant utilization. In 2008, a second reboiling column was added to the zinc refinery tornincrease the production of SHG zinc by 11,500t/y.
