The source of high-quality zinc ore is decreasing, and thus zinc hydrometallurgy is increasinglyrndependent on zinc ores that contain increased levels of impurities. One of the impurities is silica, whichrnleads to the production of zinc silicate (Zn_2SiO_4) in the roasting process. Silica is easily leached fromrnZn_2SiO_4 and saturates the solution. As a result, silica polymerizes and turns into a gel, which makes thernsolid-liquid separation of impurities from zinc solution difficult. The purpose of this study is to examinernthe effects of temperature, pH, and the presence of inorganic impurities and silica seed on the precipitationrnof silica.
