Zinc is mainly produced through the Roast-Leach-Electrowinning route. In the hydrometallurgical zincrnPlants, lowering the raised temperature of the warm zincsulfate solution of the electrowinning process,rnremoval of acidmist environment prevailing inside the tank house and maintaining the volumetric balancernby evaporation losses is possible only by the counter-current forced draft cooling towers. The biggestrnconcern of this conventional cooling tower is its frequent shut down for maintenance. It is high time torndevelop a tower in which the maintenance of demisters, spray nozzles and even the removal of cakes/rnsludge are possible while the cooling tower is under operation.
