Abstract: With the recent development of modern mechanicalindustry, automatic inspections have been playing moreand more important roles. Optoelectric inspection is amajor one among them. This article is to discuss asystem which can inspect contour sizes of mechanicalcomponents in real time by using the method ofoptoelectric image. This system adopts the methods ofoptical projection of the `tolerance zone' ofcomponents as well as image preprocessing and analysis.According to the different positions of the reflectorgroup, a variety of parameters of a component, such asouter diameter, length, width, height, taper, andthread can be measured. In this article, we firstdiscuss the structure of the system and then analyzeits principle and applications in inspecting outerdiameter, taper, and thread. In this inspection system,we use image processing and analysis in the process ofautomatic inspection. We control the complete systemand the processing of information with the help of acomputer so that the high speed and high precision areobvious. Meanwhile, due to the optoelectric method ingetting optical information, the system is ofnoncontact inspection. And also it can inspect severalparameters of a component at the same time since itadopts projection of the tolerance zone of components.For the same reason, the inspection efficiency is highand the system can be made compact. !3
