A new spectrometer system is presented which allows the determination of the colour and the UV transmission of ophthalmic lenses independent of their refractive power. Test results show a high reproducibility of the individual instruments and a good comparability between different instruments, which makes it possible to use a centralized reference database. Measurements with the instrument show furthermore, that the colorimetric data of some plastic lenses is significantly influenced by temperature and light radiation.
