Previous publications on refining of virgin pulp with a cylindrical refining concept have already presented the benefits of this unique solution. In the meantime, a number of new industrial installations for almost all paper grades and several years of operating experience have confirmed the potential of the concept. Further development in the plate pattern will open up additional applications and help to reduce paper production costs. The paper uses benchmark charts and technological figures to point out the advantages of the Papillon™ in two different applications as a profitable concept with 1. reduced idle load energy demand, 2. lower overall energy cost, 3. low investment costs, 4. higher production at the same energy consumption, and 5. remarkable and reliable technological performance.
