Three types of steel powders were prepared and then compacted, sintered, and heat-treated under various conditions. The relationships between the Young's modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio of sintered materials, and porosity were investigated by an acoustic pulse method. The porosity had the greatest influence on the Young's modulus, shear modulus, and Poisson's ratio in comparison with sintering temperature, sintering atmosphere, and heat treatment. Furthermore, the Poisson's ratio depends on the pore size, i.e., the use powder. The Poisson's ratio was increased with an increase of the sintering temperature and with heat treatment at high porosity; the influence of the sintering atmosphere on the Poisson's ratio of the sintered heat-treated compact was not seen. An approximate equation between the Poisson's ratio and a porosity below 0.2 of a sintered heat-treated compact was also proposed.
