Members of the CAN in Automation (CiA) international users' and manufacturers' group are developing CANopen-based standardized device and application profiles in order to achieve interoperable or even interchangeable devices. The presentation will give an introduction into the improved CANopen device profile for drives and motion control CiA DSP 402. The device profile defines not only default . communication parameters, but also a drive status machine that describes a specific internal and external drive behavior. The enhancements of the profile comprise a round table mode, a drive specific PDO mapping and additionally functionality of existing drive modes.
