Natural gas has been used as the main fuel for heavy-duty type gas turbines for powerrngeneration because of its relatively low cost, high availability, and low resulting emissions.rnRecently, however, the cost of natural gas has exhibited an increasing trend and its futurernavailability is not clear, indicating an opportunity to use alternative fuels. As a result, gasrnturbines should be capable of burning a variety of gas fuels, including, low heating value gasrn(e.g., synthetic gas and steel mill gas), by-petroleum product gas (e.g., H_2 rich gas and B-Brngas), landfill gas, and others. Compared with natural gas, these fuels vary in hydrocarbonrncomposition, physical properties, impurities and other ways. In order to use alternative fuelrngases in gas turbines, advanced technology modifications to the combustor and combustionrnsystem are necessary.rnIn the case of natural gas firing, the application of Dry Low NO_x (DLN) advancedrncombustors is the worldwide industry standard for power plants. However, the composition ofrnnatural gas must be carefully checked for DLN combustors, because of their limited operatingrnrange.rnThis paper describes the influence of various gas fuels to the gas turbine and its design.
