As a major element in the Danish energy policy, approx. 300 MW large-scalernoffshore wind power facilities will be erected by the end of 2003. The Elsam 160rnMW Horns Rev Offshore Project in the North Sea is the first of these facilities torncome past the drawing board and be given the final erection permit. The project is arnmulti-contract project, which comprises a wind farm with 80 turbines and anrninterconnection to the grid (offshore substation and a cable leading to the shore andrnthe main high-voltage grid). The project has now passed the commissioning phasernand the first operation experience has been gained. Data have been collected for anrnevaluation of the project feasibility and for EIA purposes, and according to thernrecorded data the mean wind speed is assessed to be 9.7 m/s. By now the authoritiesrnand the owners (Elsam and Eltra) have reached a common ground for the question ofrnsettlement and proper legislation has been adopted. Project construction costs totalrnabout DKK 2.0 billion (Euro 270 million).
