Wind generators are being installed in large numbers in both bulk wind and distributed wind applications. Inrneither case, they are frequently installed in remote geographic locations where the power system is relativelyrnweak. The turbine size and location may compound other issues associated with the variable and somewhatrnunpredictable nature of the wind energy resource. When wind power becomes relatively large at the point ofrncommon coupling with the power system than output variability and short-term fluctuations can lead to powerrnquality impacts. The focus of this paper is on distributed wind applications in which wind turbines arerninterconnected in small groups to the distribution system. The paper describes the impacts wind generation canrnhave on voltage regulation, flicker, harmonic distortion, and feeder protection coordination.
