Even with all the regulators - standards, specifications, and procedures - any automated inspection of tubular product is only as good as the operator understanding and the equipment set-up.One medium size ERW manufacturer can deliver between 0.75 and 1 million feet of welded pipes per month! All these are inspected by automated machines at an average speed of 100 ft/min.! There is no comparison with any other inspection method or technique and there is no chance for recalls or on site repairs! By the time a small defect is detected at the end user, it is usually too late to start comparing the defect with the requirements of the specification. The damage is done, the word is out, the experts are in and all parties involved are going in "damage control" mode.The volume alone deserves a specialized, organized and certified training focused on the specifics some of them outlined in this presentation.
