The availability of trajectory data recorded by the location-aware portable devices such as GPS and the development of geospatial lifeline analysis methods facilitate the computation of movement properties. It is noted that few literatures address the use of continuous geospatial lifeline based on GPS data in the pedestrian's behavioral studies and the modeling and simulation of pedestrian's movement. This paper aims to build a conceptual framework for analyzing and understanding pedestrian movement behaviors by using continuous geospatial lifeline. The proper pedestrian-relevant applications of continuous geospatial lifeline based on GPS data are specified first. Second, we discussed the usage of lifeline operators and movement descriptors in quantifying objective behaviors of pedestrians. Next, we propose a conceptual framework for using geospatial lifeline analysis in a behavior reasoning process of pedestrian movement. Finally, the paper is concluded with descriptions on what has been done as well as the suggestions on future work such as developing an experimental system to test the feasibility of the conceptual framework.
