Linearized fatigue crack growth laws are presented in this paper that will facilitate the prediction of fatigue lifetimes in structures involving all three (near-threshold,Paris and high DELTA K) regimes of long crack growth.The conditions required for the transitions from crack growth in the near-threshold to the mid- DELTA K regime and from the mid- DELTA K to the high- DELTA K regime are deter-mined mathematically by equating the different expressions at the transition points.The results obtained from this approach for two different metallic structural materials show the necessary correlations with the experimental fatigue crack growth data from which they were initially derived,thereby illustrating a mathematical system for characterizing fatigue resistant materials.
