This paper presents a complete process of extracting seedrncharacteristics used for germination detection by usingrnimage processing related to circle detection, noisernfiltering, image segmentation, thresholding,rnmorphological operations, and object labeling.rnImplementations of these tools have been optimized tornbest fit the purpose of this system. The purpose of thernpresented system is to allow seed testing, which measuresrnthe quality of the seeds using germination detection, to bernmore rapid, objective, and simple. This is importantrnbecause planting high quality seeds have been the basisrnby which agriculture remains profitable. Every seed lotrnsold commercially has had an assessment of seed qualityrnwhich requires seeds to germinate under multiplernenvironmental conditions. This paper describes anrnapproach to automate seed analysis and reduce arnbottleneck that exists in evaluating seed germination datarnwhich would otherwise be evaluated by humans. Thernproposed procedure detects a given Petri dish, separatesrnthe background from the seeds, and computes necessaryrnseed parameters used for analysis.
