The outdoor insulation of the overhead transmission lines in Hunan Power Grid is checked in the paper,the results display that 66.05%of 220kV transmission lines cannot meet the demand of preventing ice-melting flashover,and for 500kV transmission lines,the percentage is 36.17%.And in the superposition region of heavy icing area and e class pollution area,there are 1.03%of towers which cannot meet the demand of preventing ice-melting flashover in 220kV transmission lines,and for 500kV transmission lines,the percentage is 0.45%.Self-defect and insufficiencies of anti-icing improvement are the primary causes of the poor preventing ice-melting flashover capacity in the overhead transmission lines.The strategy of preventing ice-melting flashover are proposed,such as improve the forecast accuracy,reinforce the manager of ice condition observation,classify and focus on the poor prevent ice-melting flashover capacity facility.And the operation and improvement advice for preventing ice-melting flashover are also proposed in the paper.
