摘要

For centuries, wild mushrooms have been a part of the human diet and an important source of essential nutrients and medicine in many societies and civilizations across the globe, from North America to Central and South America, from Asia to Europe and Africa. Southwestern China is one of the global wild mushroom diversity hotspots and wild mushrooms have been a significant source of nutrients and income for local residents for centuries. However, with increasing local and global trade and a growing demand for wild edible mushrooms in China, the genetic resources of many indigenous wild ectomycorrhizal mushrooms are diminishing, with some populations on the brink of extinction. We have recently started a multi-species investigation of the population genetic diversities of wild mushrooms in this region, in an effort to understand the geographic, ecological and genetic factors that impact their reproduction and survival in nature. Our preliminary results using molecular markers identified cryptic speciation, gene flow, and recombination in natural populations of several representative species. Our results are consistent with tremendous genetic resources for potential domestication and breeding of wild edible mushrooms from southwestern China.
