Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is one of the recent technological development in the field of medicine. A noninvasive technique dependent on interference and back reflections of the signal is capable of producing high-resolution cross-sectional images in real time. Besides the use of low coherence interferometry and light waves for deep imaging into retinal tissue, its uniqueness is that the axial resolution can be controlled independently of the transverse resolution. Our objective is to develop a practical SD-OCT based system using the principle of Michelson Interferometer and the maximum penetration depth is expected to be in the mm range with axial resolution of about 5-10μm range.
