SV aging prospects,recently receiving attention in the navigation community,are not viewed with equal concern by all.With the stakes so high,however,even a small likelihood of reduced capabilities calls for a prudent assessment of resources.This paper identifies means of maintaining operational capability with reduced information. Many of those means are familiar but some are quite recent –and thus currently unused. rnDiscussion involving significant modification of operations is incomplete without mentioning certification.Addressing that subject raises some severe limitations of existing procedures that are unfortunate/inconvenient but nevertheless essential to confront.Even if existing institutional constraints preclude changing near-term approval requirements,the industry needs to become better prepared for unforeseen events that could affect the next generation.Consequently the proposed paper includes both technical solutions and some basic considerations involving validation.
