CASEMANS 2008 is the second ACM interaction workshop on context-awareness for self-managing systems. The motivation for the workshop was the growing interest in the research community in context-aware computing and in self-managing systems. These two fields emerge more or less independently but the former is an essential aspect of the latter. >Intelligent systems, be it applications, networks, middleware, or hardware devices, should become aware of what is taking place in and around them to adapt to the perceived change. Now the question is, what is awareness in technical terms and what should intelligent systems be aware of? These questions have been central themes in context-aware computing. So far, researchers have attempted to answer these questions by interfacing computers to the real world with physical sensors and transforming sensed data in a meaningful way; by modelling entities and relationship between them and trying to understand how a change in the surrounding of one ormore entities affect other entities; how systems can implicitly take these changes into account both to adapt themselves (by making dynamic internal reconfiguration) or provide useful services to users whose main attention may be on something else. >During the reviewing process of the CASEMANS 2008, we have remarked that self-management has several aspects. The papers chosen to be included in this proceedings display some of these aspects.
