Developing our earlier proposal that the knee could be due to the mass distribution of progenitors of cos-micray source, here it is shown that a reasonable description of the cosmic ray energy spectrum up to about 1 EeVcan be given if cosmic rays are dominantly accelerated in a single class of extragalactic sources by ultra relativisticshock waves.
