During drilling often huge financial losses could incur duernto severe drilling problems like lost circulation, pipernsticking, formation damage, high torque and drag. Thernmajor cause of these problems is the inefficiency of therndrilling fluid in performing certain tasks that arerndependent on its rheology. The control over rheologyrnbecomes more intricate due to the need of unexpectedrnchanging drilling conditions like temperature, pressurernand types of formation. It is thus crucial to have drillingrnfluids knowledge enough to be engineered to suitrnparticular conditions and be stable for wide range ofrnoperating conditions. Nanoparticles of two materialsrnbentonite and ATR were tested in drilling fluids in smallrnadditive concentration and showed remarkablernimprovement in rheology. Rapid changes in viscosity andrndensity were recorded that indicates the effectiveness ofrnnanoparticles in drilling fluids for effective and versatilernfunctionality. It is also understood that the stable nature ofrnnanoparticles will inherit greater stability to the drillingrnfluids. Sufficient experimental results were generated byrnusing different sizes and compositions of nanoparticles.
