System design is described in details and some typical algorithm presented, of a microcom-puter-based management system for the establishment of Chinese thesaurus, which has been developed on the PC/286 microcomputer in complicance with ISO 2788, gb 1319091 and other technical standards, with programs mainly written on the FOXBASE and C language and a small portion on the assembly language 8086, in a hope that it would work for universal use, highly adaptable for and applicable to the establishment and management of all kinds of Chinese thesauri.
