A feed method with a combination of L-shaped slots and strips is presented to increase the bandwidth of a circularly polarized patch antenna. Compared to the simple aperture-coupled configuration, the cross-slot is replaced by two L-shaped slots to incorporate with an L-shaped microstrip line in a unique way. The vertical arm of the L-shaped microstrip line is coupled only to the first L-shaped slot. Then, the horizontal arm of the microstrip line is serially coupled only to the second L-shaped slot. The two slots are arranged to form a square-like slot-ring. By this way, the antenna can provide an overlapped bandwidth of 400 MHz (2.3-2.7 GHz). The height of the antenna is about 0.1 free space wavelengths at 2.5 GHz.
