First results from assimilating the GOCE MDTrninto an operational ocean model at the Met Office arerndescribed. The method is designed to allow the MDTrncovariance errors to be used to adjust the MDT to betterrnfit the other assimilated ocean data and the modelrnconstraints. In these first results the GOCE MDTrncovariance errors have not been used because they onlyrnrepresent commission errors. Bias corrections to thernRio05 and the GOCE MDTs are calculated andrncompared in equivalent 1 month tests experiments.rnFurther developments are discussed.
