@@ Effects of chemicals on the soil ecosystem are evaluated by various tests using microorganisms, plants and soil animals. The test methods have been standardized, and carried out. The tests using plants and animals require longer time of incubation and the sensitivity are low in general. Microbial activities, especially bio-geochemical reactions such as nitrification, are highly sensitive because of the limited species of microbial species responsible for the reactions. The easy implications of microbial tests also make them preferable among the test methods.
