Silver has been considered as a substitute choice of plating materials on connectors for its good electrical characteristics and low cost comparing with gold plating.But the low sulfidation resistance of silver cannot be neglected.Therefore, both the corrosion resistance property and the quality of silver plated contacts need be evaluated in practical manufacture and application.In this paper, silver plated samples were corroded by three accelerated corrosion methods, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) single gas, sulfurous acid (H2SO3) vapor and potassium sulphide (K2S) solution according to the national and enterprise standards respectively.Then the morphology, element compositions and contact resistance of the silver plated coupons were analyzed and compared after different corrosive time.The different mechanisms of the chemical reactions were discussed respectively.The corrosive extent was also compared with the silver plated coupons after long-term indoor natural exposure.The detection of porosity on silver plated coupons was suggested.The application of different accelerated corrosion methods for the evaluation of silver plating was proposed finally.
