The continuous growth in data rate demand, thernimportance of real time commanding and real timernaccess to the information for diverse civilian andrnmilitary applications as well as the in-orbitrndemonstration of optical communication have led tornboost the interest of such systems for futurernapplications.rnAfter a presentation of the different fields of applicationrnand their associated performances requirements, thisrnpaper presents the possible optical link candidates.rnThen, the architecture, the design and the performancesrnof new optical terminal generations, which profits fromrnSILEX experience and the use of new technologies suchrnas SiC and APS, are detailed. This new optimisedrngeneration, highly simplified with respect to SILEXrnterminals and dimensioned to offer higher data rate,rnpresents attractive mass, volume and powerrncharacteristics compatible with a simplernaccommodation on the host vehicle.
