This poster reports on findings from a study of thernprocesses used by an interdisciplinary academic team tornwork across domain boundaries. Interdisciplinary researchrnholds much promise to address complex social problems,rnbut there has been little work addressing the work processesrnof time-limited academic teams. The project takes a socialrnconstructionist approach, using the social worldsrnperspective (Strauss, 1978), the intrinsically transient socialrnworlds model (Kazmer, 2010), and boundary objectsrntheory (Star & Griesemer, 1989) as sensitizing concepts,rnand grounded theory, situational analysis, and socialrnnetwork analysis as methods. This paper discusses therniterative nature of the project and its work, the need for bothrnspecialist and generalist work roles, and the need for teamrnmembers to be willing to take chances and fail.
