This paper presents measurements of equilibrium radiationrnobtained in the NASA Ames Research Center'srnEAST facility and the University of Queensland's X2 facility.rnThese experiments were aimed at measuring thernlevel of radiation encountered during conditions relevantrnto entry into the atmospheres of Earth and Mars wherernradiation is significant to the overall heating loads. ForrnEarth entries, the nominal test conditions covered 8 -rn12 km/s with pressures ranging from 13.3 Pa (0.1 Torr) torn133.3 Pa (1.0 Torr). For Mars entries there were severalrnranges of nominal conditions that were targeted, includingrn3 - 8.2 km/s at 133.3 Pa (1.0 Torr), 6.2 - 10.3 km/srnat 33 Pa (0.25 Torr) and 7.7 - 8.8 km/s at 13.3 Parn(0.1 Torr). This paper presents a comparison betweenrnEAST data, X2 data where appropriate and theoreticalrnmodels, NEQAIR and HARA. The present analysis endeavorsrnto provide a better understanding of the uncertaintyrnin the measurements, and to quote the level of disagreementrnbetween the experimental data and models asrna function of velocity.
