Silicon carbide reticulated porous ceramics (SiC RPCs) were fabricated by polymer replica method,followed by vacuum infiltration with different alumina slurries.The effects of infiltration slurry containing silicon and sinter temperature on the strut microstructure and mechanical properties of SiC RPCs were investigated.The results showed that the multilayered struts of SiC-RPCs with aluminosilicate as the outer layer and corundum-mullite as the exterior layer were prepared via reaction bonding after infiltrating slurry containing alumina and silicon.Furthermore,the addition of silicon in infiltrated slurry could promote the formation of mullite and reduce the oxidation rate of silicon carbide during sintering.The compressive strength and thermal shock resistance of specimens with alumina slurry containing silicon were greatly improved in comparison with those of alumina slurry infiltration ones.The enhancement was attributed to the reaction-boned triangular area and outer layer as well as residual compressive stress generated in SiC skeleton led to crack deflection.
