High heat flux properties of Chinese beryllium CN-G01 for ITER candidate plasma facing materials

China, as one of the ITER participants, will take on part of the ITER-FW blanket manufacture, thereby ITER grade beryllium for amour materials of FW panels has being developed in China. In this paper, a pre- evaluation experiment of Chinese beryllium CN-G01 was performed in an electron beam facility JUDITH-1 (Germany) by thermal shock tests. Results indicated that cracking was the major damage mechanism, and it was obviously worse than S-65C grade beryllium made by Brush Wellman Inc. USA. The reason could be due to relatively high oxygen content and low ductility. A modification of beryllium manufacture has to be conducted and the fabrication of an improved CN-G01 grade beryllium is under way.
