Just as there is a need for off-line, at-line, on-line, in-line, and non-invasive analyses in a process plant, there is also a need today for Generation I, Generation I.V, Generation II, and in the future, Generation III NeSSI? modular sampling systems in these same plants.rnNeSSI? Generation I is a mechanical solution that can be used to reduce the physical size of a sample conditioning panel designed and built to "traditional" concepts by as much as 75%. Associated with NeSSI? Generation I are recognized and proven savings in the cost to design, build, install, and commission these systems. (1)rnGeneration I.V is an automated solution that can be used to integrate a NeSSI?-based modular sampling system into the control system for the process analyzer. It employs conventional I/O architecture for the communications requirements of the system. It allows the new concept to be employed and integrated into legacy systems. (2)rnGeneration II is an intelligent automated solution that allows individual devices in the sample system to talk to each other, passing data and information and making decisions without human intervention. The devices are essentially microprocessor-based and network enabled. An open-architecture communications bus that will operate in an intrinsically safe mode is being selected. The objective of Generation II is to have a system that can self-adjust for optimal performance as process conditions change, track system reliability and operational metrics, and perform self-diagnosis.
