In this paper, four different system configurations:rn? a conventional stand alone direct expansionrn(DX) cooling coil,rn? an enthalpy wheel together with a DX coil,rn? a desiccant wheel followed by an enthalpyrnwheel together with a DX coil,rn? and an enthalpy wheel followed by arndesiccant wheel as well as a heat piperntogether with a DX coil,rnare simulated and compared in terms of their energyrnconsumption and dehumidification performancernusing two approaches. The results from the firstrnapproach, which compares the energy performancernof different configurations, while attempting tornmaintain similar level of indoor temperature andrnhumidity control, show that the desiccant unit has thernpotential to provide better indoor humidityrnconditions. The results also indicate that therndesiccant unit could be more energy efficient thanrnconventional sub-cooling and reheating approach inrnorder to provide similar level of indoor humidityrncontrol. The second approach compares the energyrnperformance as well as resulting indoor thermalrnconditions, provided that they maintain the samernsupply air temperature (SAT). In this case, thernconventional stand alone cooling coil turns out tornhave the lowest energy consumption; however itrncreates the poorest indoor humidity conditions.
