Design Reference Years are used as climaticrninput data for computer calculationsrn-simulations - mainly of solar energy systems,rnand of building energy consumption, energyrnconservation, indoor climate and comfort.rnThey can be seen as a new generation of suchrndata collections already known as TestrnReference Years in Europe or TypicalrnMeteorological Year or WYEC in US. Thernadvantages of DRY's, compared to existingrnTRY's are:rn- more correct monthly mean values andrnstandard deviations for many parametersrn- some new parameters not available in thernexisting TRY'srn- new types of parameters, eg 5 minuternvalues for direct normal radiation, orrnforecast information to be used withrnsimulation of "intelligent" energyrnmanagement systems.rnThis paper describes the news in the DesignrnReference Years. It is the outcome of arncooperation in IEA Solar Heating and CoolingrnProgramme task 9, Solar Radiation andrnPyranometry.rnTwo reports will be published within this year,rnone as a guide for producers of DRY, anotherrnas a model for national DRY users guides.
