There are two almost orthogonal aspects that need to bernconsidered when looking at the use of design tools by thernprofession, the integration of the design tools "around" thernproduct being designed and the integration of the tools "into"rnthe process using them. In the building design field, thern"Product" aspect of this has received much more attentionrnthan the "process" aspects. However, in the business arena,rnProcess Support is the latest "hot topic" and is spawning lotsrnof new systems. This paper looks at the current state of somernof the outstanding problems in both areas, and stresses thernpotential benefits to be gained from a more seriousrnconsideration of the process dimension when developing anrnintegrated design support environments.
