Learning how to model and simulate dynamicalrnsystems such as a building does not have to bernrestricted to specialists who have learned the physics,rnapplied mathematics, and engineering necessary for therntask. Modern software tools allow for a new approachrnto modeling which makes it accessible to a much widerrngroup of scientists, eng neers, and architects. Thisrnpaper presents an integrated modular method forrntraining students in the methodoIogy of modeling andrnsimulation. Students can leave the process at differentrnlevels allowing them to either appreciate the content ofrnmodels of dynamical systems and intelligently usernexisting models; to be able to quickly build simplernmodels themselves for testing ideas; or to becomernfull-fledged modelers.
