As the number of soil and sediment remediation proejcts performed increases, so do the innovative remedial approaches applied to the s ite-specific needs of these proejcts. This paper provides a discussion of stream channel erosion and sedimentation control as an innovative remediation approach applied to a site impacted by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Based on the complexity of the site's tributary system, considerable time and effort wee expended by the Tennesses Gas Pipeline Company (the Company) and the New York State Department of Environmental COnservation (The Agency), to develop an approach for remediating the site in a way that would achieve the goal of protecting human health and the environment, meet applicable Standards, Criteria, and Guidance (SCGs), and aviod extensive disruption and/or damage to the natural tributary econsystem caused bylarge-scale excavation.
