Biologically engineered drainage channel liners are quickly becoming the tool of choice to abate the severe erosion and channel scour found in areas experiencing high shear stress. The extreme force and massive flooding brougth by Hurricane Georges' winds impactin the United States' Gulf Coast in September 1998, tested the limits of both geosynthetic and rock riprap channel liners. Despite low vegetative density through the geosynthetic composite turf reinforcement matting (C-TRM) used in the study channel, the matting far out-performed rock riprap underlain with filter fabric.
