The Broadband Radiometer instrument is one of fourrninstruments to fly on the EarthCARE spacecraft. Therninstrument will measure the top of atmospherernradiative flux to aid studies into the interactionsrnbetween clouds, aerosols and radiation. At the heart ofrnthis instrument is a mechanism assembly, comprisingrntwo nested bearing assemblies driving a chopper drumrnand a calibration drum. The former controls thernpassage of light into the three telescopes while thernlatter positions the viewing baffles and calibrationrnsources which are intermittently brought into view torncalibrate the instrument. This paper presents anrnoverview of the design and a description of the testrnprogram to date, including lessons learned during thisrntime.
