Natural Period and Epicentral Distance Randomness Effect on the Base Shear Force

The aim of this paper is to analyze the sensitivity of the base shear force to the randomness of the structure natural period and epicentral distance. To this end, several reinforced concrete buildings (six, nine and twelve stories), with different floor plans: symmetric, monosymmetric, and unsymmetric are considered. These structures are erected at different epicentral distances. Initially, an expression linking the variation of the base shear force depending on the natural period of the structure and the epicentral distance is outlined. Then, this response is analyzed with hypotheses that both the considered parameters (natural period and epicentral distance) are lognormal random variables, where the confidence interval of base shear force's statistics (mean, standard deviation) are analyzed under the change of the coefficient of variation of each parameter.
