The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) in partnership with Centre for Pavement andrnTransportation Technology (CPATT) at the University of Waterloo, the Ontario Hot Mix Producersrn(OHMPA), consultants and industrial institutions have united their efforts to evaluate the structuralrnperformance of perpetual pavement designs as compared to a conventional asphalt pavement design.rnThree test sections are located on Highway 401 approaching Woodstock, Ontario; a perpetual design withrnRich Bottom Mix (RBM), a perpetual design without RBM, and a conventional design. All test sectionsrnwere equipped with various sensors that are monitoring longitudinal and transverse strain, verticalrnpressure under wheel path, moisture content in subgrade and temperature of all layers in the pavementrnsection.rnThis paper presents the laboratory results and analysis of the different asphalt mixes that were installed onrnthe perpetual test sections. The samples include Superpave? (SP) 12.5 Friction Course 2, SP 19, SP 25rnand SP 25 with RBM. Various laboratory tests were performed to analyze the quality of the asphalt andrnthese were selected to carry out some preliminary performance predictions. Laboratory testing includedrnresilient modulus testing and dynamic modulus.
