The monodispersed silica particles of diameters in the range of 0.2-8.0 #mu# m were produced by the sol-gel method. The silica particles were prepared by the building-up process, in which the seed silica particles dispersed in the ammonia-water-alcohol solution were grown to larger particles by adding dropwisely tetraethoxysilane in the solution. The typical coefficient of variation of the diameter of the particles was less than 1.5
