摘要

The purpose of this paper is to explain that information energy (or intelligence, pan-intelligence) is the fourth element in the universe, besides matter, energy, and information. Norbert Viener presented "Information is information, not matter of energy" in Cybernetics in 1948. For half century, it has come to be widely accepted in the field of science and technology as well as the whole society that the world is composed of matter, energy and information, namely, Triadism about the component elements of the universal. The authors of this paper claim that the information energy (infonegy for short) is the fourth component element in the universe, and human cultures ought to evolve to the level of Quadruplism because knowledge is dead without intelligence, and the subsystems of matter and the energy of a complex system are immovable without the drive of information energy. Moreover, the existence and evolution of information energy is the key to life organisms and complex systems involving life phenomena, and intelligence resources should be developed and utilized with priority. The authors explain the historical inevitability of the transition from Monism to Dualism, triadism, and quatruplism (the terms "Monism" and "Dualism" are borrowed from philosophy, but here they do not have philosophical meanings in any sense), and state connections and distinctions between the laws of information and material movements.
