Aflatoxin and p53 gene mutation in hepatocellular carcinoma

There were reports from Qidong and southern Africa that the p53 gene of hepatocellular cercioma (HCC) had a mutational hot-sport at codon 249. Later there were repeated reports from Qidong. However, reports from world wide other than Qidong and southern africa witout this special mutational point occurred in HCC. It was supposed that 249 mutation could be casued by exposure t o aflatoxin Bl (AFB1) which was common environmental factor prevalent in Qidong and soutern Africa. Aspergillus flavus is distributed throughout the world. However, known for nature high AFBl contaminated areas are not common. Our aim is to study p53 gene mutational hot-sport in one more know nature high prevalent area Fusui and its neighbouring counties where HCC mortality rate is 40 out of one hundred thousand per year. AFB1 exposure and Hepatitis B virus (HBV) are both suspected as principal etiological factors.
